I had a check up with my rehab vet on Monday and she said she thinks the problem with my nose is something called Discoid Lupus Erythematosus. My woman told me it's an autoimmune disease. My immune system thinks something in my skin shouldn't be there and is attacking it. The rehab vet said a vet would have to make me fall asleep, cut off part of my nose, put stitches in my nose, and send the cut off part out for testing. That would be a disaster since I would lick stitches right out of my nose. She said in my case she thought it was best to put me on the treatment plan and see if my nose responds. So I went home with a bottle of Niacinamide (B3 vitamin) and doxycycline (antibiotic.) The Niacinamide reduces histamines and the doxycycline helps calm down the immune system. The vet wants me on these 2 things for 6 weeks to help my nose heal and she hopes I can stop taking them. My nose started getting better overnight and it gets a little better every day so my people say the rehab vet must be right. They can see hair starting to grow again. I can roll and use my nose to mess with my blankets and it doesn't bleed anymore! They are pretty depressed that I have something as serious as an autoimmune disease but they are happy my nose if finally healing. They say I have to make a lifestyle change though. No more laying in the hot sun because the sunlight can make the disease flare up and make a flare up worse. Comments are closed.
