Organ Buying Frenzy and Tripe

5/22/2013

Chance needed some non-lamb organs and heart so I headed to the Japanese market.
Pork spleen was on short sale so I bought all of that they had, a couple of pounds each of beef and pork livers, beef and pork kidneys and a pound of pork brains.  Chance is set for the next 3-4 months for organ variety.
I bought 4 pig hearts and was disappointed they didn't have any beef heart.
I also splurged on a rabbit because she likes rabbit.

I made an impulse purchase through the co-op.  5 lbs. of frozen ground green tripe.  I don't feed ground meats but I thought Chance might enjoy a little of green tripe mixed in with her joint supplements.  And I could order it by the 5-lb. bag instead of by a half or whole case.
Chance thought it smelled so good she knocked the bag out of my hand and started nibbling away.
It doesn't really add anything to her diet but she doesn't eat enough of it for us to have to sacrifice any red meat.  It's more of a treat.
