The FDA issued a formal warning letter to Evanger's Dog and Cat Food Company regarding ongoing Current Good Manufacturing Process non-compliance issues and denial of Evanger's request to donate the recalled pet food to animal shelters due to insufficient assurance that remaining recalled food is pentobarbital-free.

The expanded recall notice dated Mar. 3 posts to the FDA page.  I checked the FDA recall page at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Mar. 4 and the recall was not there.​

The expanded recall notice Evanger's customer service said should be posted to the FDA Recall page on Feb. 28 or Mar. 1 
Feb. 28 has still not been posted.

I just got off the phone with Evanger's customer service.  The expanded recall was initiated yesterday and should be posted by the FDA tonight or tomorrow.  ​

A spokesperson for USDA-FSIS said the government found trace amounts of pig and horse in Evanger's Hunk Of Beef Dog Food but the amounts of both were less than 2% so they were not reportable.

In the Feb. 19  posting to the Evanger's web site titled “Dear Pet Parents,” the supplier was described as being “USDA-APHIS inspected.”
The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has no involvement in meat inspection, that falls under the jurisdiction of the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS).  USDA-FSIS oversees slaughterhouses and meat processors that produce meat for human consumption.
